Inspirational Quotes

You can make more friends in a month by being interested in them than in ten years by trying to get them interested in you.

-  Charles Allen

"To be is to do": Socrates

"Do be do be do": Sinatra

You've got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between

You've got to spread joy up to the maximum
Bring gloom down to the minimum
Have faith or pandemonium
Liable to walk upon the scene

(To illustrate his last remark
Jonah in the whale, Noah in the ark
What did they do
Just when everything looked so dark)

Man, they said we better
Accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between
No, do not mess with Mister In-Between
Do you hear me, hmm?

(Oh, listen to me children and-a you will hear
About the elininatin' of the negative
And the accent on the positive)
And gather 'round me children if you're willin'
And sit tight while I start reviewin'
The attitude of doin' right

(You've gotta accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between)

You've got to spread joy (up to the maximum)
Bring gloom (down) down to the minimum
Otherwise (otherwise) pandemonium
Liable to walk upon the scene

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Learn to pause ... or nothing worthwhile will catch up to you.

-  Doug King

Lord, where we are wrong, make us willing to change; where we are right, make us easy to live with.

-  Peter Marshal

Which One Will Win?

A Cherokee elder sitting with his grandchildren told them, “In every life there is a terrible fight – a fight between two wolves. One is evil: he is fear, anger, envy, greed, arrogance, self-pity, resentment, and deceit. The other is good: joy, serenity, humility, confidence, generosity, truth, gentleness, and compassion.” A child asked, “Grandfather, which wolf will win?” The elder looked him in the eye. “The one you feed.”

Guitarist Jay Leach  has worked or recorded with Roy Orbison, Barry Manilow, Gladys Knight, John Denver, The Pointer Sisters, Michael McDonald, Bonnie Raitt, and Kirk Whalum.  Movie soundtracks include Mars Attacks, Trip to Bountiful, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, and many more! Leach gathers a handful of the genre's finest Christian musicians -- Justo Almario, Abe Laboriel, Alex Acuna, and Kirk Whalum -- for an eclectic praise-and-jam session on his CD, "Beyond Words", providing scripture to meditate on in the liner notes as one listens to a blend of electric funk and string-section-enhanced acoustic solos.

Bassist Todd Johnson is recognized as a pioneer of the six-string bass. With his custom Yamaha six-string bass, equipped with a midi pick-up, Johnson uses an innovative technique where he plays chord changes and bass lines simultaneously. Bass Player magazine's Ed Friedland says, "Todd can simultaneously swing like Ray Brown and accompany like organist Jimmy Smith." In addition to his work with the Ron Escheté Trio, Johnson has performed and recorded with other artists, including Mike Stern, Dave Weckl, Scott Henderson, Plas Johnson, Sam Most, Joe LaBarbera, Poncho Sanchez, Paul Humphrey, and Frank Gambale.  Johnson sees his talents as a gift to continually enhance and develop.

Chuck Yamek is one of today’s hottest musical innovators of Contemporary Jazz Guitar. With his versatility to play guitar in any music genre, Chuck’s  performances can also be experienced during his global tours with his renowned guitar clinics and concerts that are sought after by musicians and non-musicians of all ages.

Aaron Weitekamp's musical pursuits have been many and varied. His musical experiences range from jazz bass player, accompanist, copyist, conductor, producer, and composer. Following college, he spent two years in Nashville, Tennesee, where he studied with award-winning Nashville arranger Ron Huff. That is when he began to develop a love and skill for commercial arranging. He has continued to prove his expertise for arranging. Aaron has teamed up with Jeff Anderson to form AnderKamp Music, a print music publishing company, which now counts in its catalog over 50 of Aaron's arrangements. Aaron's film scoring, jazz and choral works have received recognition in national competitions..

David Pray  is a multi-instrumentalist, playing bass, guitar, and keys. Traveling the world over most of his life David's music reflects the global cultures he witnessed and fuses various ethnic instruments with memorable hooks that include a mix of Jazz, Pop, Latin, and World music. The David Pray Jazz Trio was birthed with sax player Bill Garfield and Jeff Weshe on drums.

Yogi Berra explains Jazz!

Interviewer: Can you explain jazz?

Yogi: I can't, but I will.       90% of all jazz is half
improvisation. The other half is the part people play
while others are playing something they never played
with anyone who played that part. So if you play the
wrong part, its right. If you play the right part, it
might be right if you play it wrong enough. But if
you play it too right, it's wrong.

Interviewer: I don't understand.

Yogi: Anyone who understands jazz knows that you can't understand it. It's too complicated. That's
what's so simple about it.

Interviewer: Do you understand it?

Yogi: No. That's why I can explain it. If I
understood it, I wouldn't know anything about it.

Interviewer: Are there any great jazz players alive
today?

Yogi: No. All the great jazz players alive today are
dead. Except for the ones that are still alive. But
so many of them are dead, that the ones that are still
alive are dying to be like the ones that are dead.
Some would kill for it.

Interviewer: What is syncopation?

Yogi: That's when the note that you should hear now
happens either before or after you hear it. In jazz,
you don't hear notes when they happen because that
would be some other type of music. Other types of
music can be jazz, but only if they're the same as
something different from those other kinds.

Interviewer: Now I really don't understand.

Yogi: I haven't taught you enough for you to not
understand jazz that well.

"There are many reasons for the failure to comprehend Christ's teaching...but the chief cause which has engendered all these misconceptions is this: that Christ's teaching is considered to be such as can be accepted, or not accepted, without changing one's life." - Leo Tolstoy

Each Day a Lifetime!

Never burden yourself by looking far ahead. Always live one day at a time. If you can do this, you will live like children, birds and flowers. For them each day is a life time. Every day unfolds new joy, new hope, even if every day may have brought you new shadows and new nightfall. Every day you may have broken down in guilt and failure. Every day may have shown you your helplessness a thousand fold. Yet each new day brings new sun, new air, and new grace. - Eberhard Arnold
