The Coltrane Test
by Charlie Peacock...
"there
is so much to learn about a musical life in Christ.
Don't be discouraged if you are not on the same
planet as John Coltrane, few musicians are. Still,
have eyes to see and ears to hear. And be inspired.
When you are laid to rest may it be said of you that
a Love Supreme drove your every thought and deed."

God, Church, And
All That Jazz...
"Jazz is
a spiritual movement, it gets the adrenalin rushing
when we play it. Gospel music is an
adrenalin-raising type music anyway, with its
shouts, its counter-rhythms, it is an emotional
music, and jazz people like that. Jazz touches a
card, a deeper card, where people are moved into
responding to the music... It is about spontaneity
but that is still in harmony with the rest, and
inviting people to talk about their salvation, to
talk about their journey, to talk about their
struggles, to talk about their agony, jazz does
that". Read more

Devotional
God's life is like
wonderful, eternal music. God the Father creates this
exquisite symphony and pours it out into the universe
through the Son. Jesus of Nazareth is the
transcription of the music in a human life, a theme
played without distortion in his life, death and
resurrection. He is the original transcription of that
divine, eternal music into a form playable on finite,
human instruments. We hear that music transcribed in
him and we take it up ourselves, or we are taken up by
it ourselves.
Living "in Christ" is like being "in the music." When
a musician really knows the music "by heart," the
musician can surrender in such a way that it is as
though the music plays the musician. You become one
with the music. You are the music while the music
lasts. The reality of the music takes you over, not in
a violent overthrow, but in the wonder and beauty of
being captured by the music in and through your own
action and dedication to it. When you get to that
place, there is an intimate relationship with the
music. You belong to the music and the music belongs
to you.
That
is our place with Christ. We stand with Christ caught
up in the eternal flow giving and receiving of love
that goes on before time,,,
Rev.
Lowell Grisham
