MOJO: Horn Section

Now at the tips of your fingers is the most versatile horn section in the world, MOJO: Horn Section, which offers the most flexible and innovative approach to pop, funk, jazz, and big band horns ever created in a virtual instrument. Inspired by legendary groups like Tower of Power and the big bands of decades past, MOJO is capable of emulating everything from a sultry sax solo to a screaming full big band playing at the top of their lungs.

  Luck Be A Lady

Blue After 2

Pushing the boundaries of sampling and scripting technology far beyond traditional sample libraries, MOJO offers a simple but feature-packed interface. No need to decide in advance which articulation you want to play. Simply load the instrument, turn the Ensemble knob to specify how many players you want playing that instrument (from a soloist to a dectet) and begin controlling the instrument from the keyboard. More than a dozen articulations are instantly loaded and intelligently handled via performance features and keyswitches. Behind the scenes, a humanizing function, smart release layers, and custom legato and vibrato tools assist the player in reproducing the ultimate dimensions in realism. Crescendos and swells sync instantly to host tempos and can be triggered in real time.

Included in the instrument collection are: soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, trumpet (open, muted, and piccolo), flugelhorn, trombone (open and muted), bass trombone, and clarinet. The articulation list varies for each instrument, but generally includes sustains, stabs, staccatos, trills, slurs, shakes, octave runs, rise to hits, falls (including four different lengths), doits, bends, stylistic riffs, special effects, and tempo-synced swells and crescendos. All samples are recorded in 24-bit stereo using the finest preamps in the world, including a vintage Neve 1073 and a LaChapell Audio 992EG, and mics by AKG, Neumann, and Coles.

"The star of Mojo Hon Collection is the collection of big, rich, brassy sounds. The sampling is spot on, and the playability is exemplary. And while I'm sure many users would be happy just to dial up presets and play, there's also a hidden world inside MHS where you can tweak the sound in multiple ways." - Craig Anderton

"...there's no doubting that Mojo is one of the best horn instruments available." – Computer Music (Rating: 9/10)

For more information about MOJO, visit Vir2 Instruments

MOJO is powered by the popular Kontakt engine, offering total integration into all major sequencers via its AudioUnit, VST, and RTAS plug-ins, as well as standalone. Registered owners of MOJO are eligible for a discounted crossgrade to the full version of Kontakt, which is a full-fledged sampler capable of importing, editing, and creating other sample libraries, in addition to playing MOJO and other Vir2 products. Full details are available on the Kontakt 3 crossgrade page on the Native Instruments site.

At the heart of MOJO are twelve core instruments: Trumpet, Trombone, Trumpet Muted, Trombone Muted, Piccolo Trumpet, Bass Trombone, Soprano Sax, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Clarinet, and Flugelhorn. Using MOJO is as simple as deciding which instrument to load. Solo and ensemble playing is built into each individual core patch, as are all articulations and release types. MOJO makes it as easy and straightforward as possible to begin playing without having to make too many decisions or sifting through dozens of patches. When any of the twelve core instruments are loaded, this interface is displayed.

The first two knobs allow you to control how many players should be playing this instrument (from one to ten) and which mode they should be playing in (polyphonic, monophonic, or legato). These knobs, as well as virtually every other parameter in the MOJO interface, can be controlled via MIDI, so these knobs can be programmed and adjusted on the fly. Using these features, it's easy to sequence a stacked trumpet section, then switch to a solo trumpet, then return to the section, all within one MIDI track or performance.

As you add players to the ensemble, MOJO intelligently spreads the ensemble around the stereo field and gives you control over their spread, tuning variation, and other aspects of the group.

The onscreen display shows you which articulation and release type is active at any given time. Each instrument includes various articulations and release layers which are triggered via keyswitches, such as bends, runs, crescendos, swells, doits, falls, staccatos, stabs, and more.

Doits, falls of various speeds, and up-slurs are available as releases and are also triggerable via keyswitches. In other words, hold down a sustain chord, then hold down the keyswitch trigger, then exactly when you release the original chord, MOJO will play the release articulation, ascending from the original notes you played.

Swells and crescendos are programmed to sync to the tempo of the host sequencer. Using MOJO's advanced automatic timestretching, you can configure MOJO to play swells and crescendos that are the exact number of beats you want, from 1 beat to 18 beats. MOJO will also follow a changing tempo, so if the tempo changes in the middle of the song, swells and crescendos will adjust automatically.

Each core instrument includes a full suite of integrated effects, such as compression, limiting, reverb, EQ, and more.

Many other engines and controls have been integrated into MOJO, including physically modeled vibrato, advanced humanization, character control (allowing adjustment between mellow vs. aggressive playing), attack control for more percussive playing, and EZRoom one-click convolution reverb.

In addition to the twelve core instruments discussed above, MOJO includes prerecorded riffs and special effects.

Wallander Instruments

“...a breakthrough in getting brass and woodwinds sections to sound right.” - Keyboard magazine, Jan. 2009

Who is Wallander Instruments?
Wallander Instruments is a Swedish music software development company founded by Arne Wallander. Arne, who’s had a life-long love of music, graphics, and software engineering, holds a master’s degree in Engineering Physics, and is the company’s chief scientist. He began work on his flagship product, WIVI, in 2005. Thanks to the open-armed acceptance of his groundbreaking technology, his small family business (Arne’s father is also an engineer), is rapidly growing—and destined for greatness.

What exactly is WIVI?
WIVI is a collection of virtual acoustic orchestral instruments that run as audio plug-ins in popular compatible music applications (VST/AU/RTAS). WIVI stands for Wallander Instruments’ Visual Instruments. Presently there are six WIVI products in the line: Brass 1, Woodwinds 1, 2, and 3, and the NEW Saxophones 1 and 2.

Why “Visual” Instruments?
When designing the graphic user interface for WIVI, Arne drew upon his experience in game programming to create software that not only presented the essential ingredients in a clear, musically intuitive way, but that was also fun to use, easy on the eyes, and creatively inspiring. All WIVIs share a common interface that allows the user to literally “build” an orchestra—moving instruments around on stage, arranging groups of instruments, selecting the performance environment, etc. Of course, you can also call up a preset and accomplish
all of the above automatically. Put another way: The serious engineering horsepower behind the WIVI technology is graced with an interface that is inviting, intuitive, and easy to use.

What makes Wallander Instruments WIVI so special?
In a word: Incredibly expressive, realistic sound (OK, four words). Markkus Rovito of Remix nailed it in his “Best of NAMM 2009” roundup: “A lot of companies were trying to show off either their modeled brass ortheir sample-based brass collections at NAMM, but none that we heard were as impressive as Wallander Instruments Brass 1. Wallander’s acoustic behavioral modeling does a remarkable job of reproducing the nuances of notoriously difficult to replicate brass instruments.” ‘Nuff said!

The collection that started the WIVI revolution!

The Brass 1 collection contains four of the most powerful voices of the symphonic orchestra.

The standard brass instruments are also used extensively in pop & jazz, and has a unique position as often being the carrying force of the modern Hollywood action soundtracks.

In WIVI these instruments come to their full right with an immense dynamic range. When treated delicately the Brass 1 instruments can carry some of the most peaceful melodies in western music. When set loose, a screaming brass fortissimo becomes the driving force in the orchestra or Big Band.

The "Magic Quartet"

Saxophones 1 includes the four most popular saxophone types of our day, the soprano, the alto, the tenor and the baritone.

The tenor is arguably the most popular and well-recognized saxophone of our day, along with the more soft-spoken alto. In saxophone quartets, the tenor regularly plays the most prominent role due to its distinct tone.

Saxophones are widely popular instruments both as soloists and sections, used in everything from jazz, blues and big band, to popular and orchestral music. Famous for their breathy, intimate singing tone, beautifully reproduced by WIVI.

Mibac Jazz

Mibac is a  program that produces very authentic sequences, and does so much more quickly than one could enter the parts with a MlDl keyboard and sequencer. It seems to be specifically designed for the improviser lacking in keyboard proficiency, making it possible for an instrumentalist or vocalist to work on the changes to any tune without the need for a rhythm section or a play along record. It also allows those creating their own jazz compositions to hear the rhythm section play the changes in a stylistic manner. The manual is well-written and contains an excellent tutorial that takes the user through virtually all the features of the program... the transpose function is excellent and will be a time saver for instructors.) The ability to customize rhythm-section backgrounds will be helpful to individual students at any level of improvisation ability, and will be especially helpful to teachers, both in private studios and in the classroom, who want to provide accompaniment tapes for their students ...Downbeat Magazine

If you're into jazz, you'll like MiBAC Jazz...it does what it does better than anything else!

Chords are entered into a lead sheet, and the program generates music based on the selected musical style. MiBAC Jazz concentrates all its energies on one type of music: jazz. Not surprisingly then, MiBAC Jazz produces convincing results in various jazz styles. These include Jazz 4/4, Jazz 3/4, Slow 4 (l2/8 feel), and Latin, each with different grooves that change according to the tempo. For example, MiBAC Jazz's "piano player" comps quite differently in a burnin' bebop tune than in a medium swing tune. It is intended to be used as your own personal jazz rhythm section for practicing improvisation, but it may be useful as a composition/lead sheet-creation tool as well...  Electronic Musician

MiBAC Jazz is an excellent example of software that targets a specific musical problem-jazz improvisation... How does it sound? The rhythm section sounds real - not a mechanical drum machine feel. You can tailor your drummer to suit your own tastes...considering the well-thought-out manual, excellent musical feel, printing and chord options, this is a wonderful tool for developing jazz improvisational skills. Nice work!....American Music Teacher

MiBAC represents a breakthrough in jazz sure to have an impact on this and future generations of musicians!...  David N. Baker, Indiana University

Jazz EZX®

This Jazz EZX features samples performed by the legendary Drum Virtuoso/Pioneer Roy ”Futureman” Wooten.

Futureman is a multiple Grammy award winning composer, inventor, and multi-instrumentalist who has been a pioneer in using sampled drums since 1985. He has shared the stage and numerous albums with many Jazz legends.

As an instrumentalist Roy Wooten strives to employ the power and science of Mother Nature and his percussive technique takes playing drums way beyond just simple time keeping. His approach is a much more all-encompassing and universal one.

He invented and built the Drumitar to be able to voice his own revolutionary approach to Jazz with the groundbreaking group Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. As a result Futureman has performed using Toontrack Music samples to an audience of millions, live at some of the most popular and critically revered performance halls, clubs, TV shows and festivals on the planet. Through Roy Wooten our sounds have made it through to the airwaves of places like Carnegie Hall and premier Greenwich Village Jazz club Blue Note.

The recordings for the Jazz EZX set a benchmark for how sampling percussive instruments, and musical instruments in general, will be done in the future.

Toontrack Music has had the privilege to capture the magic of Futureman. His touch, his heart, his philosophy and his unique approach to his craft in this Jazz EZX. The story of jazz drums has a new chapter.

The Funkmasters EZX®

This is a unique and exclusive recording of two of the most important drummers in popular music. Clyde Stubblefield and John "Jab’o" Starks.

On their own or in tandem, Starks and Stubblefield were the principal drummers for the Godfather of Soul and Funk, Mr. James Brown. Fans and critics alike cite their collective era in Brown’s band as the pinnacle of Funk.

Samples and looped audio of their original beats and breaks would go on to become the foundation of Hip-Hop. Their breaks gave birth to countless genres reaching deep into the realms of underground, experimental and popular music. It is also crucial to note that the use of their breaks inspired innovation within the techniques of DJ-ing and sample based production, thus making Starks and Stubblefield the most sampled and influential drummers in modern day music.

Toontrack® Music has sampled both their unique sound and grooves. Musicians, Producers and DJ's will be amazed by the depth of soul found within these samples. From the tight sizzle of the hi-hats to the snap and crack of the snares, our unique sampler engine reveals the subtle mastery of these drummers in ways never available before. The included MIDI will inevitably become the backbone to a new generation of Digital Jockeys generations to come.

The Funkmasters EZX® feature two kit interfaces, one for Clyde and one for Jabo. The EZX® also features effects sliders in the EZmixer, a Vinyl effect created with the use of iZotopes Vinyl plug-in and a large Plate reverb resampled at Toontrack® Music Studios, Umea, delivering all that you need to create those real sounding Funk tracks.

The Latin Percussion EZX®

Contains the percussion sounds from the revolutionary, award winning pro drum sampler, dfh Superior from Toontrack® Music. The EZX® includes MIDI files that will add that extra groove on top of your steady drumtrack.

Percussionist Mikael Emsing on the recordings:
I was excited when Toontrack® asked me to collaborate on this product. Most of the work I've done in the studio and live have not been traditional Latin or African music, but rather Rock, Pop or Jazz-type sessions. Most of the sampling libraries I've come across however, have been geared more towards traditional Ethnic music. I felt there was a need for a sample library with sounds adapted to these situations.

I´ve spent years studying traditional music, but also spent an equal amount of time trying to get some sort of "signature" sound, a sound that works live as well as in the studio, a sound that has some soul to it and I wanted to be sure that came through on the sampled sounds. Much to my satisfaction the guys from Toontrack shared my vision and from the get-go we planned and recorded everything with this in mind. I also wanted a wide variety of sounds and through the generous help of MEINL Percussion we have been able to provide the vital instruments for making recordings in the aforementioned genres. All the instruments were recorded in different sizes and materials. From large to small, from wood to fiberglass etc. Carrying this DVD around will be a lot easier than lugging all those instruments around (thank god for cartage services by the way...). Time to get the groove going.

The sounds for the Latin Percussion EZX® were recorded, engineered and mixed by Henrik Kjellberg & Mattias Eklund at Musikanten and Toontrack® Studios, Umeĺ, Sweden.
The MIDI for the Latin Percussion EZX® were played by Mikael Emsing and recorded at Toontrack® Studios, Umeĺ, Sweden.
Sound and MIDI editing: Mattias Eklund & Henrik Kjellberg.

5 vacas Evaluation of iChords by Dr. File Finder on Tucows.com

"D'Accord iChords makes it really easy to transcribe chords. What's really cool is that it can tell you what chords are being played in the music you're listening to.

It eliminates the guess work if you want to learn a song quickly. In testing it out here I found D'Accord iChords to be very easy-to-use and intuitive. It's excellent tool for beginners and novice players as well.

I took MP3 files of several songs I didn't know how to play and let the software show me the chords. Geez, where was this software when I was playing in bands? ...

So, if you play guitar or know someone who does, this should be a gift you give them. Really nicely done. I recommend it."

Sibelius 5 Professional Edition Notation Software

The fastest, smartest, easiest way to write music is now even better.

Sibelius 5 is the essential software for writing, playing, printing, and publishing music notation. It will keep you inspired and help you take your ideas even further. Whatever your musical style, Sibelius 5 music notation software makes writing scores a breeze-giving you more time to focus on the music.

Stunning features like Panorama mean you don't need to think about pages while you're composing or arranging. You can just let your creativity flow. Ideas Hub is a real first for music software. It lets you instantly capture your musical ideas, and then find them again in a second-so you'll never lose another idea. Plus new, high-quality, built-in sounds play back your scores with astounding realism, because there's no better way to perfect your music than by hearing it. You can create audio files which can be converted to MP3s or burned to CD, produce instrumental parts effortlessly, compose for video, sell your music online and do hundreds of other things you might never have dreamed of.

~ Write and refine music easily ~
Sibelius 5 software is so easy to learn and use that you can start writing your first piece within minutes- not days! Discover the joys of writing music with a program that's simple and intuitive. And, of course, being able to change your music in the blink of an eye-no more rubbing out.

    ~ Hear your music ~
The easiest way to perfect your music is by hearing it. Just click the play button in Sibelius to hear your music performed with surprising realism, thanks to the built-in Sibelius Sounds Essentials library. Sibelius reads, understands, and plays back all standard markings, and you can buy extra sound libraries for choral music, world music, and more.

~ See your music, panoramically Panorama offers a clear, wide view of music that enables faster composition, easier revisions and, in education, clearer analysis of entire pieces. Instead of being chopped up into systems and pages, the music is shown in a single, infinitely-wide strip-far easier to read and navigate around. Users can now just think about the notes, and forget about page layout until ready to print.

    ~ Print beautiful scores ~
The world's largest sheet music publishers use Sibelius to produce the music you see in the shops. Now you can create the same standard of print-out. And with Sibelius, it's just so easy.

Instrumental parts that magically update Sibelius makes producing instrumental parts a joy. In fact, when you start your score, the parts are already there. You can flick between them using a simple drop-down. When you make a change to the full score, the relevant parts are automatically updated, and vice versa.

    ~ Ideas hub ~
Ideas are precious. That's why Sibelius 5 gives you the Ideas Hub-the easy way to capture, tag, find, and bring together your musical ideas. This is a first for any music software. Composers can quickly capture snippets of music they have written, tag them with keywords such as, 'violin', 'tremolo', 'minor' etc and then find them again in an instant. Ideas can then be pasted from the hub into a score, and are automatically transposed into the right key and range, as well as the right tempo. Ideas Hub also comes pre-loaded with over 2000 professionally-written ideas that cover all genres of music, from classical through to hip-hop. These are perfect for inspiring music students, and for users wishing to try their hand at new styles of music. With Ideas Hub, you'll never let another flash of inspiration slip by again.

~ Publish, or sell, your music online ~
As well as printed music, Sibelius publishes beautifully online, too. You can create web versions of scores that can be viewed by anyone using the free Scorch web browser plug-in. And you can easily start selling your scores online via SIbeliusMusic.com.

    ~ Stunning built-in sounds & playback ~
Sibelius 5 comes with Sibelius Sounds Essentials as standard-a 2GB collection of sounds selected from top-name libraries by Garritan, SonicVox and Tapspace. As well as these new built-in sounds, Sibelius 5 offers full VST & Audio Units support for the first time. This enables users to playback their scores using renowned sample libraries such as the East West Quantum Symphonic Orchestra or Vienna Symphonic Library. Playback is handled by Kontakt Player 2, the latest version with much improved performance. Sibelius 5 enhances the realism of playback by handling accents, articulations, hairpins etc. better than ever before. A further improvement to playback is SoundWorld, a revolutionary way of categorizing sounds that ensures Sibelius always chooses the most suitable sound available on any device.

More exciting features sets Sibelius 5 even further apart from the competition:
Easy cues & instrument changes makes creating instrumental parts faster than ever before. Users simply select any section of music they want to cue, copy it to the clipboard, and use the new Paste as Cue feature to produce a perfect cue. Sibelius 5 even suggests cue locations, and will proofread them before printing. Changing instruments mid-staff, for example a clarinet to alto saxophone, is also simplicity itself thanks to the new Instrument Change feature.

Sibelius 5 also offers users complete and easy layout control, covering bar- and page- numbering, blank pages, sheet music margins and more-making it easier than ever to produce beautiful scores.

An elegant new music font, Reprise, produces an astonishingly realistic simulation of hand-copying, plus Sibelius 5 can show chord symbols and allow teachers to write the names of notes within noteheads. Sibelius 5 also enables functional analysis and includes extra music symbols for writing early music and avant garde.

Sibelius 5 also offers many new plugins, including tools for splitting, joining and modifying tuplets, cleaning up played-in music, fitting music to video and transforming one scale into another, for example minor to pentatonic. The total number of available plugins for Sibelius is now over 80, and with Sibelius 5, users can now undo plugins.
