Arlington "Ollie" Julius Jones II was born June 15, 1973 in
Chicago, Illinois to Arlington and Myra Jones. His parents not
only raised him in a solid family with strong, Christian values,
but they also introduced Arlington to music. Arlington began
studying and playing the piano nearly twenty years ago.
In
1995, Arlington received a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition
from
Texas Tech
University
in
Lubbock. In 1997, he completed a Master of Music in Music
Performance at
Southwest Texas
State University
in San Marcos. He trained under the direction of Dr. James Polk,
former musical director for the legendary Ray Charles. In 1998,
he studied with Bernard Wright, acclaimed composer and keyboardist
for various artists in the music industry including Roberta Flack.
Arlington started playing professionally during his
early years at Texas Tech. Some of his mentors include Oscar
Peterson, Errol Garner, Joe Sample, and Duke Ellington. Over the
years, he has been granted the privilege to play with Kirk Whalum,
DeDe Warwick, Clark Terry, Roy Hargrove, David "Fathead" Newman,
Frank Foster, and more.
Arlington presently works in several facets of the music
industry. Since 1997, he has been working as a professor for Cedar
Valley College, instructing theory, jazz composition/arranging
courses, and private piano lessons. Arlington operates a music
service contracting business called Zamaria Musick Company. He
plays frequently with his band, The Arlington Jones Trio
(established in 1998). This group has received acclaims and
recognition for their smooth and versatile playing style. He is
also the pianist/keyboardist for saxophonist, Tom Braxton (Braxtonian
Music) and bassist, Wayman Tisdale (Warner Brothers).
Recently Arlington started his own publishing company and record
label,
Zamaria Records
(divisions of Zamaria Musick Company). He also has a piano duet
instruction book located
here.
He has composed and arranged well over 200 songs to date.
With all the great
challenges facing musicians today, one of Arlington's goals is to
help other musicians and people everywhere understand that music
is intended to be life-changing, uplifting, and comforting to the
soul.
Arlington shares that," When I think about the music I play and
what happens when it is performed, I realize I am not creating it
all with my own strength. It is true that I must spend countless
in practice and preparation, but there is a, "spiritual" aspect to
music that I do not totally control. I have come to understand
that God causes people to be encouraged, uplifted, happy,
reflective, healed, blessed, or whatever they need when they
listen to His music."
Arlington
is married to Hope Nicole, and they have one beautiful daughter,
Christian Joelle. He and his family live in Arlington, Texas.
